The Green
Collection

In 2007, The Green Collection was established at Alfa Development as a vision of company’s future; a series of buildings that would target LEED-Gold Certification while concurrently providing a platform for residents’ pursuit of their own personal Wellness through on-property shared common space dedicated to residents.

Ten years later in 2017, Alfa celebrated the launch of the sixth building in its Green Collection, 200 East 21st Street, the culmination of a decade’s commitment to sustainable building practices which continue to this day — and beyond.

Targeting LEED-Gold

  • LED Lighting

200 East 21st Street sustainable condos in Gramercy Park use LED lighting wherever possible as well as movement sensors in the stairwells and corridors to eliminate wasteful use of energy.

  • Performance Windows

Double-paned European windows provide high thermal performance and wind stability with gasketed and insulated assembly. Oversized design provides natural light with reduced noise pollution and minimal heat gain.

  • ETS Control

Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) control minimizes residents’ exposure to airborne pollutants and improves insulation between apartments.

  • Efficient Heating & Cooling

The high-efficiency Daikin system uses a variable speed motor to run continuously and keep temperature constant by 2+/- degrees.

  • Bicycle Storage

Indoor bicycle storage encourages the use of eco-friendly transportation instead of greenhouse gas-producing vehicles.

  • Wind Energy

Wind-generated electricity use can avoid the release of 5,723 pounds of carbon dioxide per year per household.

  • Solar Thermal

Domestic hot water is heated by solar thermal technology, reducing the energy required to heat the building’s water.

  • Sustainable Materials

FSC-certified woods are used in all residences and, where possible, building materials are made from recycled content.

  • Filtered Drinking Water

Filtered in-line drinking water will be provided in each home.

  • Green Roof

Provides natural insulation and reduces ‘heat island effect.’

  • Rainwater Collection

A 3,500-gallon tank collects rainwater to be used to irrigate plantings.

  • Water Conservation

Advanced water-conserving fixtures, faucets, and appliances are used throughout the building and in each residence to reduce potable-water consumption.
